NEW STONES CORNER SERVICE CENTRE OFFICIALLY OPENED

21 February 2025

SENATOR THE HON KATY GALLAGHER
MINISTER FINANCE
MINISTER FOR WOMEN
MINISTER FOR THE PUBLIC SERVICE
MINISTER FOR GOVERNMENT SERVICES

NEW STONES CORNER SERVICE CENTRE OFFICIALLY OPENED

Minister for Government Services, Senator the Hon Katy Gallagher, has officially opened Services Australia’s new Stones Corner Service Centre, ensuring Brisbane locals can continue to access the essential services they rely on every day.

The service centre is a one-stop-shop for people needing face-to-face support for Centrelink and Medicare services like the age pension, veterans’ support, and enrolling newborn babies onto Medicare.

A range of specialist services are also available at Stones Corner, including financial information services, aged care specialists, and Indigenous, multicultural and community engagement officers.

There are 11 new staff who've been recruited since November 2023 currently based in the new Stones Corner Service Centre. They join the almost 600 additional Services Australia staff that have been hired across Queensland since late 2023, who have contributed to wait times for Centrelink and Medicare claims plummeting across the country.

New data revealed today shows wait times for social services and health claims have fallen by as much as 99 per cent in some cases thanks to these additional staff.

The Service Centre opening comes as Minister Gallagher wraps up her tour of Queensland this week, where she has met with frontline staff in Townsville, Cairns, and Brisbane to hear firsthand about the work they do.

The service centre at 357 Logan Road Stones Corner is open Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Government Services Senator the Hon Katy Gallagher:

“It’s exciting to see the doors open at the new Stones Corner Service Centre, which will provide southsiders with a welcoming front door to government services.

“The Albanese Labor government is committed to making sure Australians have easy access to their day-to-day services like the pension and Medicare, and this new service centre is the latest example of that.

“We’re committed to staffing and resourcing our frontline services properly, which is why we’ve hired almost 600 additional Services Australia staff in Queensland alone since late 2023, which is leading to real, tangible benefits for Australians.

“We’re continuing to make government services more efficient, so Australians can get on with their lives.”
