STATEMENT ON APPOINTMENT TO SHADOW MINISTRY

03 June 2019

KATY GALLAGHER
SHADOW MINISTER FOR FINANCE
SHADOW MINISTER FOR THE PUBLIC SERVICE
SENATOR FOR THE AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORY

I am honoured to be re-joining the Labor front bench and to serve as Shadow Minister Finance and Shadow Minister for the Public Service within the Albanese Shadow Cabinet.

The finance portfolio has a wide reach across government and a key priority for me in this role will be ensuring that Australians get value for money for their taxes and that any government expenditure is well targeted and responsibly made.

Standing up for an appropriately resourced, independent and capable Australian Public Service will also form an important part of my role. I will work hard every day to hold the Morrison Government to account.

This new and challenging role also provides a great opportunity to help shape Labor’s policy agenda going forwards to the next election.

I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Labor economic team including Jim Chalmers, Brendan O’Connor, Stephen Jones, Andrew Leigh and Matt Thistlethwaite.

I am also really pleased to again take up the role of Manager of Opposition Business in the Senate.

The Senate is a wonderful place to work and I look forward to supporting our new leadership team of Penny Wong and Kristina Keneally as Manager.
